APCO ANNOUNCES 2009 P33 CERTIFICATIONS AND RECERTIFICATION

June 8, 2009, Alexandria, Va. - The Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) International today announced the agencies they have recognized as having achieved certified compliance in meeting or exceeding the APCO Project 33 - Revised Minimum Training Standards for Public Safety Telecommunicators. The certification and recertification presentations will be made at the Distinguished Achievers Breakfast at the APCO International 75th Annual Conference and Exposition in Las Vegas, Nev. on August 18.

APCO Project 33 identifies the minimum training requirements for public safety telecommunications officers, telecommunicators, call takers and/or dispatchers. The standard specifies the minimum training requirements, in general, of operational personnel assigned to any public safety communications function and recognizes the need to supplement these basic competencies with agency-specific information. This year's recognition includes certification to:

  • Durham Emergency Communications Center, Durham, N.C.
  • Naperville Police Department, Naperville, Ill.
  • Brevard County Sheriff's Office, Titusville, Fla.
  • Hamilton County Department of Communications, Cincinnati, Ohio
  • Charlottesville-UVA-Albermarle County ECC, Charlottesville, Va.
  • Summit County Communications Center, Frisco, Colo.

In addition, Valley Communications Center in Kent, Wash. will receive recertification this year.

"For many years APCO International has established competent training standards, which effectively prepare trainees to better understand their role and responsibilities within both public safety and related public service occupations," APCO International Executive Director George S. Rice, Jr. said. "We congratulate the recipients for recognizing the need for certification and recertification in their center and for the hard work employed to achieve the standard."

The APCO International 75th Annual Conference and Exposition will be held August 16-20 in Las Vegas, Nev.
