APCO ANNOUNCES NEW TRAINING AND CERTIFICATION INITIATIVE

August 20, 2009, Las Vegas, Nev. - The Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) International today announced their intent to create a Training and Certification Tracking (TACT) System. This announcement came during their 75th Annual Conference and Exposition, which featured sessions on training and certification issues.

APCO International's TACT will be the first national registry of public safety communication professionals allowing telecommunicators, technicians, managers and others responsible for the delivery of public safety technology services to first responders to document their abilities and credentials in a national database.

"Issues surrounding training and certification are among the most important in our industry for a number of reasons, to include their connection to communications center liability," APCO International President Chris Fischer said. "Our hope is that TACT will not only boost professional development, but also lighten the load of these diligent professionals in performing their life-saving duties."

"The Perfect Storm: Why Quality Assurance and Training are Critical in the Age of Video, Liability and YouTube?" will take place at APCO International's 75th Annual Conference and Exposition today at 1:00p.m. at the Las Vegas Hilton Pavilion 2 and will provide step-by-step instructions on how to implement a comprehensive quality and skill-development program.
