APCO APPLAUDS NTIA INTEROPERABILITY GRANT PROGRAM

July 18, 2007, Washington, DC – The Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) International today applauded the Department of Commerce's (DOC) National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) for their announcement today of nearly $1 billion in grants for first responder communications.

"APCO International applauds Commerce Secretary Gutierrez and Homeland Security Secretary Chertoff not only for making the funding for interoperable communications a priority, but for recognizing the importance of all components to achieving interoperability including training and coordination," APCO International President Wanda McCarley said. "APCO International encourages state and local agencies to take the necessary steps, with this funding as a tool, to achieve full interoperability in their communities."
