BROWN COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE UPGRADES EMD PROGRAM

February 18, 2009, Hiawatha, Kan. - Brown County (Kan.) Sheriff's Office has become the latest communications center to upgrade their APCO Institute Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) Guidecards to the Multi-purpose Emergency Dispatch System (MEDS) software.

Brown County Sheriff's Office answers all of the 9-1-1 calls in Brown County and provides dispatch service for four law enforcement agencies, seven volunteer fire departments, one emergency medical service (EMS), and one rescue service.

The APCO Institute MEDS software includes fire service, EMS and law enforcement dispatch guidecards in electronic format, as well as an extensive quality assurance/quality improvement component all-in-one package and is the only electronic version of the APCO Institute EMD Guidecards approved by the APCO Institute.

Brown County Sheriff's Office chose APCO Institute EMD because of the “over all simplicity and adaptability of the system,” said Sgt. Doug Brammer, communications supervisor for Brown County Sheriff's Office. He also noted the value of the system and the in-house instructor offering of the program as reasons for their decision.

“The APCO Institute is proud to assist Brown County Sheriff's Office in upgrading their EMD program and looks forward to continuing to work with their staff to provide the highest level of care possible to the community they serve,” said APCO Institute Director Julie Troutman.
