APCO AND NENA APPLAUD FCC FOR VOIP E9-1-1
ACTION
August 26,
2008, Washington, DC - The Association of Public-Safety
Communications Officials (APCO) International and the National
Emergency Number Association (NENA) today applauded the Federal
Communications Commission (FCC) for their adoption of a Notice
of Proposed Rulemaking implementing provisions of the NET 911
Improvement Act (PL 110-283) today.
"We applaud the Commission for its work to ensure that VoIP/
9-1-1 calls are properly routed to the correct PSAP," APCO International
President Chris Fischer said. "We also greatly appreciate the efforts of
all of the Commissioners to find solutions for 9-1-1 calls from wireless VoIP
devices."
"As a strong supporter of the FCC's VoIP E9-1-1 rules and the
NET 911 Improvement Act, NENA is pleased with the steps taken by the FCC today.
The NPRM will result in rules to ensure that all areas of the country are
covered by critical E9-1-1 capabilities for VoIP services," said NENA President
Ron Bonneau, ENP. "We also appreciate the statements of all the
Commissioners concerning the need to address important wireless VoIP E9-1-1
