APCO AND NENA SEEK ADDITIONAL COMMENTS ON DRAFT STANDARD PSAP-SERVICE CAPABILITY CRITERIA RATING SCALE

September 30, 2008, Washington, DC - The Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) International and the National Emergency Number Association (NENA) released for comments Friday a proposed addition to a candidate American National Standard (ANS) to assist Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) managers and their governing authorities to identify their current level of service capability.

Draft APCO/NENA ANS 1.102.1-200x: Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP)-Service Capability Criteria Rating Scale includes an assessment tool to objectively assess capabilities of the PSAP against models representing the best level of preparedness, survivability and sustainability amidst a wide range of natural and man-made events. It can facilitate and provide the basis for discussion with funding bodies concerning the PSAP's current technological position and its readiness or effectiveness to survive certain at-risk disasters. The content was developed by the APCO-NENA PSAP Survivability Work Group.

The proposed addition revises the previous addition, grounding/lightning protection related to survivability, and can be reviewed at http://www.apcointl.org/new/commcenter911/ansi-activity.php. At this time, no other changes are proposed for candidate APCO/NENA ANS 1.102.1-200x. The complete candidate standard is available at http://www.apcostandards.org. Comments regarding only this proposed addition must be submitted by October 26 online or by email to apcostandards@apco911.org.
