APCO AFC SELECTED TO MANAGE CAPRAD
February 5, 2009, Daytona Beach, Fla. - The Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) International announced today that its Automated Frequency Coordination (AFC) has been named as a subcontractor to manage the Computer Assisted Pre-Coordination Resource and Database (CAPRAD) system. As part of the contract, APCO AFC will provide technical, consultative, and personnel support to the 700/800 MHz Regional Planning Committees (RPCs) and the CAPRAD system.
“APCO International has been actively engaged in the review of 800-MHz rebanding and recognizes the enormous responsibilities given to the RPCs in the process,” said Steve Devine, Missouri Office of Homeland Security Interoperability Program manager and long-time APCO International member. “Their continued support for 800-MHz RPCs will ensure improved interoperability and technical assistance to help committee members comply with the 800-MHz service rules.”
“APCO AFC has a highly developed technology and personnel platform to support the CAPRAD system and the RPCs,” said Alan Bull, chair of the National Regional Planning Committee and an APCO International member. “They were the first public safety coordinator to implement a fully automated search engine and, over the years, APCO AFC’s system has evolved into a web-based platform where many users, in any part of the world, can tap into its resources.”
APCO International has been closely associated with the creation of CAPRAD including its conception, development, and deployment. APCO AFC is the largest public safety coordinator who originated the process to develop CAPRAD. In addition, more than 80 percent of the individuals actively participating in CAPRAD are APCO International members and/or APCO AFC local advisors. Furthermore, APCO AFC was instrumental in the continuation of colloquiums and ongoing CAPRAD training.
“We appreciate the trust placed in APCO International and, thereby, the recognition of our strength, diversity, and 75 years of experience, all of which will benefit the program,” said APCO International President Chris Fischer.
