Video Training Series
APCO Institute offers a series of training videos online to assist you in your training needs. Do you want additional training for your agency? Need a refresher for TTY, Suicidal Callers or AMBER Alerts? Each video qualifies as one CDE credit. Train unlimited staff for an entire month on one of these three sessions:
AMBER Alerts Training Video
The AMBER Alert system is a nationwide system that is organized under the state or regional plans to assist with the recovery of abducted or endangered children. The system was developed to quickly deliver information to the public about these children to aid law enforcement in the speedy recovery of the child. The role of the dispatcher is often critical in the quick deployment of personnel and, in some cases, in the actual entry of information into the system to initiate the AMBER Alert. This training video gives background on how the system was developed and describes the implementation process.
Suicidal Callers Training Video
Many 9-1-1 telecommunicators in the United States may not have training or experience handling suicidal callers. They may develop their techniques while on the job through trial-and-error, but not have the benefit of formal training. This training video will enable you to benefit from others' experiences in handling a suicidal caller. This video also dispels common suicide myths, teaches you how to assess the risk of a possible suicide call, and demonstrates proper techniques for handling that call.
TTY - Call recognition and Processing Training Video
Most calls into a dispatch center will come from people using a standard telephone to verbally report an emergency, but in some cases a telecommunicator will only hear tones instead of words. It may be because the caller is using a TTY - or test telephone - because he or she is unable to speak. Federal mandates and your desire to help people in needs makes it critical for you to know how to properly answer these calls. This video explains some of the different devices used, and how to properly communicate with TTY users in need of emergency help.
Each video qualifies as one CDE credit. Attendees in a conference setting but not individually logged in may receive CDE points for $15 each.
