TTY - Call Recognition and Processing Video-Based Training Program
The Americans with Disabilities Act and the US Department of Justice standards require telecommunicators, 9-1-1 operators, and calltakers to effectively recognize and process TTY calls for service. Text communications are inherently slower, TTY users are often unfamiliar with 9-1-1, telecommunicators and calltakers often are not effectively trained to handle TTY calls, and emergency situations tend to augment these problems.
Upon successful completion of this course, the student should be able to:
- Identify methods of TTY call recognition.
- Explain the proper procedures for handling TTY, voice carry over (VCO), hearing carry over (HCO), and telecommunications relay service calls.
- Identify the elements of effective TTY call processing.
- Describe procedures for receiving and initiating TTY calls.
